5 Tips on How to Meditate as a Beginner
#1 START WITH A GUIDED MEDITATION
My first tip is to start with a guided meditation. Meditation is a practice. It’s going to take time to cultivate a habit of daily meditation, so make sure to start with a guided meditation to make it easy. It might take weeks or months, in some cases, years to become good at meditation. So, my dear, be patient and persistent. Don’t give up easily.
#2 BE PATIENT
Be patient and just start. Train your mind on a daily basis. Just like you train your body in the gym, you need to train your mind. DAILY!
#3 MAKE IT A DAILY HABIT
Make it a daily habit. Create a new habit to practice meditation daily. Remember, you don’t have to meditate for hours. Start with 5 – 10 minutes in the morning, 5 – 10 minutes before bed and later on add more.
I can tell you from my experience, there are so many benefits once you start with daily meditation. I healed myself from anxiety and panic attacks just through meditation practice. If you want to learn more, check out Vipassana meditation practice at www.dhamma.org.
#4 DON’T TRY TO EMPTY YOUR MIND
It’s OK to have thoughts. Just observe them. Don’t try to empty your mind. Remember that meditation is a practice of observation. It’s a way to get to know yourself. On deeper level.
#5 SIT IN A COMFORTABLE POSITION WITH A STRAIGHT BACK
Don’t worry about your position. As long as you feel comfortable you’ll be fine. Now, don’t go too comfortable. Don’t lay down because you may most likely fall asleep. You want to set in a comfortable position with a straight back. Remember, meditation is a practice. It takes time to tame the animal: monkey mind. One thing I know for sure is that if you master your mind you master your life.
